Class 1/9 – Plant project – T.Noah

This week class 1/9 have been learning what plants need to grow and change. Part of the discovery has been identifying things plants need to live. 1/9 have been discovering different plant structures (seeds , leaves, stems, roots and flowers) how seeds transform into young adult plants, and what are the essential ingredients for successful plant life.

Throughout the past month the grade 1/9 classroom have been discovering , in depth, all of these fascinating topics inside the classroom as well as in the science lab.

Class 1/9 are looking forward to discovering the animals of our planet and how we scientists classify them in the coming month.

Teacher Craig – Grade 5 English- Endangered animals project

Grade 5 Students have just completed a project covering present perfect and present perfect continuous verbs as well as endangered animals as is covered in current English and Social Studies contents. Working in small groups, students must write short paragraphs describing problems which endangered animals face in the world. Sentences include some present perfect plus present perfect continuous verbs. Students must write and check one another on the writing for content/ideas, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Students also illustrate, making images as realistic as possible to portray endangered animals.

Class 6/9 Science

This Week Teachers George and Briony dissected frogs as part of their Animal Systems unit with class 6/9 in the science lab. The students had a wonderful time and the lesson was a great success!

Grade 4 Rhythm readings – Teacher Ron

Grade 4 students used the Boomwhackers this week to learn notes and reinforce reading rhythms. These tuned percussion instruments produce a pitch when struck on something. This is a great and fun way to learn to read music and work together to play a song.

Grade 3 Photo editing lessons

Grade 3 are currently learning about Photo editing software. This weeks lesson was on layers – which can be used to combine images together.  Here the students are demonstrating using multiple layers of colors and text. Next week we will use the layering skills we have learned to combine images from other sources.

*Update 2019*

Stay tuned for a revamped and updated EIP website! Over the next few weeks this website will be updated with regular postings about school activities!

See you soon!

Ecosystems

In grade four, this semester’s second unit focused on ecosystems. In the first lab, students picked a biome and brought in supplies to recreate the conditions in that biome. In the second lab, students used the same animals and plants from the biome box to create a food web. The food webs were made using paper plates and string. For the final ecosystem lab, the students were given a biome and they were asked to design an animal with special adaptations that allowed their animal to survive in their given biome.

MathWhizz P6

Prathom six students in Mr. Brian Mallon’s math classes have been working along quite nicely. In addition to their regular math classes, the students head to a computer lab once a week and go online to use a math program called MathWhizz.

Math-Whizz is an online virtual math tutor that caters to your child’s unique ability – helping them reach their true potential and preparing them for success in school. It is a tutoring device designed to deliver ideal lessons to progress children’s learning ability.

Math-Whizz uses ‘Math Age’, just like a ‘reading age’. You want your child’s Math Age to go up. Experience has shown that children who use Math-Whizz for 60 minutes a week improve their Math Age by, on average, more than 18 months in their first year of use.
